Work Experience Blog!
Okay, so last week (horrendous timing, but had to be done!) I went on work experience as a photojournalist at the Bath Chronicle. I was taken in by Kev (Chief Photographer) and Lloyd (photographer) who I shadowed for the week. My role basically involved running around all over Bath taking photos of whatever was assigned to us.
Monday involved following Lloyd for my first day, and in all fairness I was very scared. I’ve never really done photojournalism and certainly wasn’t used to the styles of photography they did.In the evening I shot the band Decade for a feature in next weeks paper (which is out now!)
Tuesday I was out with Kev who threw me in the deep end and said I had to start taking the photos, which started off terrible, but got better I assure you!
Wednesday, Back to Lloyd, pressure’s off; no photos for me today! Shadowing again.
Thursday, The paper came out! Actually included a fair few of my photographs as well! Woo! Very proud. Back with Kev, on Wednesday I actually missed taking photo’s so it was nice to be out there and being challenged again.
Friday; last day. Back with Lloyd. Met the mayor, met the BANES council, all very scary considering I wasn’t dressed for such a proper occasion!
Kev and Lloyd really taught me a lot about photographing for a paper. Mostly about making the picture thing “whats the story here?” Giving them enough of the story to make it interesting without giving it all away. The main focuses are faces and props! 40 years experience in 5 days. THANKS KEV :D
